PROBLEM GAMBLING PREVENTION WEEK
Problem Gambling Prevention Week (PGPW) is a program of the Responsible Gambling Council (RGC).
The Council is an independent, non-profit organization committed to problem gambling prevention. RGC designs and delivers highly effective awareness programs. Through the RGC Centre for the Advancement of Best Practices, the Council also promotes the identification and adoption of best practices in problem gambling prevention.
Problem Gambling Prevention Week focuses community attention on the risks of problem gambling, ways to limit those risks, realistic expectations of winning and losing, and where to get help if you have a problem.
This year’s theme focuses on money management and gambling and is entitled, ‘No Regrets’. Gambling is one thing you might do with your leisure time, but unlike going out for dinner or a movie, gambling comes with risks. Whether you spend on the slots, table games, lottery tickets, etc., it’s important to remember that all of these games, even those involving skill, include a large element of chance. That’s why setting and sticking to money limits is key to steering clear of potential problems. At the end of the day, it’s good to walk away with “no regrets”, whether you win or lose.
Problem Gambling Prevention Week brings together stakeholders who want to reduce the risk of problem gambling, including local counselling agencies, governments and gambling providers. PGPW reaches over three million Ontario households through interactive awareness displays, local advertising, activities and inserts in community newspapers.
